We just stirred them up on the table and then gathered them up. I taught my own daughter the Grandma Brown shuffle and it's a tradition that will continue to bring a smile to our faces as we gather around the table to play games with our family and friends and share such precious memories. Thank you Grandma for playing cards with me and playing dominoes with my daughter. This summer's visit is a memory I will always treasure.

And she was, indeed grand.

She was a grade school teacher long before I came around, but she taught me how to make cookies--peanut butter ones with a fork mark pressed on top, and those ones you make a thumbprint and fill it with jam.

People say I got my grandma's gift of drawing.

But possibly my favourite memory of Grandma Brown was the day she saved my life. They say sugar will kill you but for me, one day it nearly did. She had this infamous candy bowl, and every time we grandkids visited we got to pick a candy out. I was about 11 or so, too old to admit that getting a candy made my day, but it totally did. So I pick out a Werthers or some kind of hard candy and start sucking the Heaven out of it, when, oops, it goes down my throat. But it didn't keep going down my throat. So I start choking and it's just not coming out. Well, I am too young of a grandkid to have seen Grandma Brown at her prime, so she never seemed too athletic to me, but when that woman saw me choking she zoomed across the room, scooped me up, flipped me upside down, and gave my back a wallop that sent that candy flying across the linoleum floor. She just set me right back on my feet, and I lived another day. I knew she was not a woman to be trifled with, but after that day I would never have dared.

What a lady.

My dad sent me this photo this past August, the last I saw her, and the black and white one is from before she and my grandpa got married. She sure missed Grandpa since he passed 10 years ago. I'm glad they're back in each other's arms. Have fun til I get there, you guys!  I look forward to knowing you both better.
