When I was little, Uncle Art always reminded me of this great big redwood tree. He was just so tall, strong and sturdy. He had an unwavering and gentle spirit to him which added to this appeal of mine that he was like one of the great big forrest trees I grew up with in California. As I grew older and taller, Uncle Art still felt like greatness when you wrapped your arms around him and realized how small you were compared to him. But it was always endearing to know that this big tree of mine could hug me back like no other tree could.

His smile was so kind and endearing, I always pushed myself to make him laugh and get that jolly belly of his to jiggle! He is one of the most well respected and humble men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and calling family.

I miss you greatly, Uncle Art... But I know you are giving me a big redwood tree air hug from Heaven.

Dear Linda, Brian, Micheal, Pat and Louise. I am Denise Arlene Ashmore (nee Clendening) middle named after Arthur's mom, my Aunt Arlene. I have not seen the family for many years but have never forgotten all you. I was very saddened to hear of your loss this very hour. I would have been honoured to come and pay my respects, had I known sooner. Arthur was always respected and looked up to by my parents Clint and Dina, myself and my 5 siblings Mike, Lisette, Leslie, John and Robin. I have fond memories of cottaging " up north" on Uncle Jimmy's property with all the cousins, Uncles and Aunts..We called Arthur "uncle Arthur" because he was closer to my dad Clint's age than ours.
