Mackinnon, Francis Joseph passed away at home surrounded by his loving family after a valiant fight with cancer on May 30, 2018. Frank was born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia. He is survived by his common-law partner and best friend Janice Fisher. Loving father of Joey, Robert, and George of Cape Breton Nova Scotia, Mary Theresa (Rick) Brandon of Spruce Grove Alberta, and Sharon (Bernie) Mackinnon of Cape Breton Nova Scotia. Devoted Grandfather to Cory (Michelle) Tyler, Nicholas, Joelle (Matt) Mackinnon, Jeffrey, Caitlin Brandon, Alishia (Ali), Kelsey (Richard) Mackinnon, Shauna and Jennifer Sheppard, and Logan Mackinnon. Great Grandfather to Gage, Laney, Zachary, John Robert, Carson and Kaya. Loving brother to Margaret, John, Alban (Junior) MacNeil, Chuck Mackinnon and Marie Sollazzo, Special Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Francis Joseph McKinnon, Annie-Mae MacNeil, 2 daughters Ann Marie and Ann Darlene, stepfather Alban MacNeil, siblings, Steve, Michael, Betty and Theresa. Frank worked for many years in the Coal Mining industry in Cape Breton and the Sydney Steel Corporation. Frank was happiest when working in his garage, either doing maintenance on his vehicles or working on different projects around the house. Frank’s dry sense of humor brought many happy moments to his family and friends. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to express a special thank-you to the Palliative Team for their compassion and support. As expression of sympathy donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Association.
