Obituary for Florence Irene Chamberlain
Florence Irene Chamberlain (nee Gammie), daughter of the late James and Mabel (Winfield) Gammie, was born Sept 9, 1924 at their home on Middlebrook Road in Pilkington Township. Florence passed away at the Wellington Terrace in Elora on Sunday, April 22, 2018 in her 94th year.
Florence and Robert Chamberlain were married on July 1, 1942 shortly before Robert’s departure for military service. They lived on Middlebrook Road across from Florence’s parent's farm for 50 of their 60 married years. There they raised their family and had a custom butchering business.
Florence was very loving, compassionate, hard working, and humble. She was a lifelong member of Knox Presbyterian Church in Elora where she was a dedicated member of the choir for at least 65 years, as well as a church elder, a member of the Service Club and Bible Study group, and an active member of the pastoral care visiting team. She had several jobs over the years including homemaker, baker, store clerk, and factory worker. She retired from Simmons Furniture Factory January 1984.
Florence will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses Earl (Joan), David (Brenda), Heather (William Smith); son-in-law Teunis Haalboom (Anne); grandchildren Dana (Richard Biasutto), Blair, and Kevin; great- grandchildren Maya Biasutto, Giacomo Biasutto, and Ewan Chamberlain; sister and brother-in-law Audrey and John Hake; and sister- in- law Merle (John Gammie).
Florence is predeceased by husband Robert; daughter Anne; grandson Blayne Chamberlain; parents James and Mabel (Winfield) Gammie; 8 siblings and 7 of the 8 spouses Margaret (Melville Bridge), Edna (Thomson Farquhar), Doris (Ron Clark), Harold (Beatrice), Harvey (Viola), Kenneth (Betty), Donald (Agnes), John (Meryl); brother- in- law Robert Flewwelling (Audrey); and 12 siblings of her husband Robert and their spouses.
Visitation will be held at the Graham A. Giddy Funeral Home, 37 Church Street East in Elora, ON on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm- 9:00 pm. The service to celebrate Florence’s life will be held at the Knox Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 27th, 2018 at 1:00 pm. Lunch will follow the service at Knox Presbyterian Church, 55 Church Street East in Elora. Interment will be at the Elora Cemetery, 367 South Street in Elora. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Groves Memorial Hospital in Fergus or Knox Presbyterian Church in Elora would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted with the Graham A.
